A dedicated server is a physical machine that belongs to you alone. You share it with nobody, so a busy neighbour cannot slow your site down. It sits in a Dutch data centre, so your site responds quickly for visitors here and your data stays in the Netherlands.
You decide which software runs on it and how the server is set up. We keep the basics safe and up to date and watch whether the machine stays healthy. Call us with a problem and you get someone who knows your server.
Dedicated, VPS or shared hosting: what do you need?
The three differ mainly in how much of the machine is yours. That determines what you are allowed to configure and how much you notice of what others get up to on the same machine.
Shared hosting
Your site sits on one server together with those of other customers, and we handle the management and the updates. For most websites that works fine. It gets tight when someone else's traffic peak reaches your visitors, or when your software needs do not fit the standard setup.
VPS
A walled-off part of a physical machine, with a guaranteed share of the memory and the cores, and your own root access. You set the server up yourself without having to take a whole machine.
Dedicated server
The whole machine is yours: every core, all the memory and all the disks. Nobody else is drawing on them, and you decide when it gets updated and rebooted.
When do you move to dedicated?
- Your VPS fills up at busy moments and one size larger no longer solves it

- You run software with its own demands on the kernel or the hardware
- You have agreements in place about where your data may sit and who can reach it

Your data stays in the Netherlands
The data sits under Dutch and European law. You do not have to account for transfers outside the EU, and when a customer asks where their data is, you can simply tell them.

Our servers sit in BIT data centres in the Netherlands. They are certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and NEN 7510, secured to VEB class 4, and have redundant power with diesel generators and fully redundant cooling.

You call our own engineers in Haarlem, during your working day. That saves a night of waiting for an answer from another time zone.

When you need something that does not fit a plan
That happens more often than you would think. Most conversations start with a question that falls outside the plans: a second machine alongside, a firewall that has to let this through and that not, or an application that only runs on an older version.
You do not have to work out the configuration yourself. Tell us what you want to achieve and we will tell you what that takes and what it costs. Sometimes the answer is that a VPS would already do.
Multi-server setups
Two or more machines that can take over each other's work, so maintenance or a failed disk does not take your site offline.
Custom VPN and firewall
Letting in only the traffic that belongs there, and connecting your office or your customers through a tunnel.
Extra storage or SSDs
More disk space, or faster disks if your application reads and writes all day long.

Security and management: what comes with your server
Our management comes with every dedicated server. We keep the basics up to date and keep an eye on the machine, and a back-up goes out every day. CloudLinux OS is there by default. Imunify360 is an extra layer you can add.

- What's the difference between a VPS and a dedicated server?
- With a VPS you share a physical machine with other customers, with a guaranteed share of the memory and the cores. With a dedicated server the whole machine is yours. Further up this page we set out which form fits which situation.
- What does "Managed" mean?
- Managed means we handle server management: hardware monitoring, security updates, performance tuning and troubleshooting. You keep root access for your own software and configuration, we keep the foundation safe and up to date.
- Do I get full root access?
- Yes. With a dedicated server you get full root access to install, configure and manage your own software. We only keep the base monitoring and security up-to-date.
- What if I need a very specific configuration?
- Then we build to order: adjusted hardware, a network configuration of your own, or a different storage layout. Describe what you need and we will build to that.
- Which data centre hosts your servers?
- In BIT data centres in the Netherlands, certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and NEN 7510. What that means for your speed and your data is set out above under "Why a Dutch dedicated server".
- How quickly can a dedicated server be delivered?
- Standard configurations are usually delivered within one to a few working days. Custom work with specific hardware can take longer; we discuss beforehand what is feasible. In the meantime you hear from us how it is going.
